Dear Parents,
We had another great week of learning this week! Please take a look at what we will be learning next week...

Next Week...
Math: This week we will continue with measurement using non standard units. We will introduce time (to the hour) later in the week and will continue it into the following week.

Science: This week will begin our unit on magnets and patterns of movement.  Students will use magnets to push and pull objects and predict how magnets will interact with various materials.

Reading:  Students will be comparing fiction and nonfiction and identifying text features in nonfiction books. They will learn about the different text features and their purpose.

Writing:  This is the final week of our study on personal narrative writing. Students will select one of their personal narratives to revise, edit, publish and share.

Balanced Literacy: Students will continue to explore and learn about timelines.  Students will be given their AT HOME Timeline Project that will be due on November 12th.  The project will allow students to share about one of their family holidays through a timeline of events that they do to celebrate.

Week 9

Dear Family,
Hope all of you had a wonderful 4 day weekend!

Next Week...
Math: We will begin our unit of measurement. Students will practice using non-standard units (pencils, paper clips, Popsicle sticks, etc.) to measure different objects. Students will be able to explain the  difference in measurement length when comparing two non-standard units. Students will write what they noticed about both numbers when comparing the units
(ie I noticed that there are more blocks than glue sticks because blocks are smaller.)

Science: This week students will continue identifying forms of energy and discussing the importance of energy in everyday life.  We will specifically observe and discuss sound energy.  It is a type of energy we can hear and it alerts us to what is around us, such as sirens and alarms.

Reading:  The students will learn how to identify the author’s purpose in writing a text. These will include:  Persuade: Convince a reader to think a certain way about a particular topic/subject/idea.  Entertain: Just tell a good story whether it be sad, funny, scary, etc.
Inform: Give you information about a particular topic/subject.

Writing:  Students will continue writing their personal narratives in week four of this five week unit. This week the focus is using speech bubbles, writing character dialogue, and describing the characters and setting by using vivid adjectives.

Balanced Literacy: The students will continue to describe and measure time (days, weeks, months and years) using calendars.  They will use this to create a calendar of our current month and important days that are in that month.  Students will then use their knowledge of time by creating a simple timeline of a typical school day.

Campus News…

We are partnering with BrightBytes, an educational data analytics company, in order to learn more about our students’ school and home technology use for learning. We are reaching out to ask you to take part in our questionnaire.

Your participation is essential in helping us form a more complete picture of  technology use for learning in our students’ lives. Please know that all of your responses will remain anonymous to protect your privacy and they will help your child's school choose the right technology for their classrooms. It will take approximately 5 minutes to complete.

The window to take the survey is Monday, October 8th thru Monday, October 22, 2018.
