Week 7, 2nd 9 Weeks


Dear Family,
Fun theme days are planned for next week!  See below for information.  Several kids are forgetting to return library books.  Please remind your child to bring them back every week. Thanks so much!

Next Week...

Monday: Elf Day-Fun learning activities that are Elf themed will be done.  Students may dress like an elf or wear a shirt with one on it.
Tuesday: Grinch Day- Fun learning activities that are Grinch themed will be done.  Students are invited to wear green, dress like a Who, or wear a Grinch shirt if they wish.
Wednesday: Polar Express Day-Students are invited to wear pajamas to school.  Please be sure to wear appropriate shoes though.  Winter party is 10:40-11:30 AM. Parents are invited to attend.

Week 6 2nd 9 Weeks


Dear Parents,

Today is the last day to turn in the field trip permission form and $7. Drop it by the office if you have not already done so!
We will have special themed days before we leave for the holidays. The themes and dates will be as follows:
Dec. 17 ELF day
Dec. 18 GRINCH day
Dec. 19 POLAR EXPRESS day (also the day of our winter party 10:40-11:30)
Our PBL (project based learning) this semester is about kindness. We have been brainstorming ideas to answer our driving question, "How can we as first graders spread kindness in our school and community?" The students have come up with some pretty amazing responses!

Next Week...
Math: Students will practice telling time to the half hour. They will be able to identify and explain the minute hand and hour hand. Students will be able to show time to the half hour on both a digital clock and analog clock.

Science: Students will learn about and record weather information, including weather temperature, such as hot or cold, clear or cloudy, calm or windy, and rainy or icy.  Students will also discover that air is all around us and that wind is moving air by constructing and observing windsocks and/or pinwheels.

Reading: This week students will be learning about the elements of folktales  through a well known author, Jan Brett. We will end the week with a “Holidays Around the World” rotation to learn about 5 different holidays from other countries.

Writing:  We will continue to work on our fairy tale writing and focus on editing a final piece for publishing.

Balanced Literacy: Students will be reading Aesop’s Fables and discussing the moral or lesson of each fable and how they can apply to themselves. We will also be doing some fun winter activities!
