Dear Family,
Last week, I sent home directions for a
Valentine's Box and a class list if your child wishes to exchange valentines on
the 14th. Unlike the Winter and End of Year Party, the Valentine's Day
party is for student's only. This is because all the parties will be on the
same day and we know how challenging parking is!
Next Week…
Math: This week
students will continue with the doubles strategy. They will be introduced to
doubles +1 and doubles +2 strategy. It is important for students to understand
that addition/subtraction is more than just computation. Students will be able
to solve and generate story problems using these doubles strategies.
Science: Students will begin to sort and classify living and nonliving
things based upon whether they have basic needs and produce offspring.
Reading/Writing: This week we will begin a research unit on Laura Numeroff. We
will read books by Laura Numeroff, develop open ended questions, gather
information from relevant sources, revise and produce a product to show our
class research.
Balanced Literacy: In Social Studies, we will be discussing how the
characteristics of places are based on geographic location. In Phonics, we will
be hearing and saying the same middle sound in words as well as hearing and
dividing onsets and rhymes.
